Definition
The highway crossing the country border to border, around which nearly all life in the interior is organized. Eastward it ends at Yaviza, where the Darién Gap begins.
Example
We'll take the Panamericana to Santiago and turn off there.Vamos por la Panamericana hasta Santiago y de ahí doblamos.
