el chino

Also spelled: la tienda del chino · minisúper

Definition

The corner store, where you buy on credit, some of them until late, and by the unit. The name comes from the fact that many are run by Chinese-Panamanian families, present since the railroad was built in 1850. Note that some use it affectionately and others hear it reducing a whole community to a shop.

Example

Run down to el chino and get a quarter pound of cheese.Ve pa onde el chino y trae un cuarto de libra de queso.
