What does pretendiente mean?
Someone interested in another person and making it known, before anything is official. The word survives mostly in the mouths of mothers and aunts, who are the ones keeping track.

The girl has a pretendiente, according to her aunt.La nena tiene un pretendiente, dice la tía.
