Definition

A peasant and Indigenous leader from Coclé who fought in the War of a Thousand Days at the head of his own troop, demanding land and dignity for his people. He was executed by firing squad in 1903. Reclaimed as a popular hero long after his death, he is the counterweight to official history written from the capital.
