Portobelo
Also spelled: Puerto Bello
Definition
A coastal town in Colón province, a key port of the Spanish empire where the fairs that moved Peruvian silver to Europe were held. Today a center of Congo culture and home to the shrine of the Black Christ (el Nazareno), which draws a mass pilgrimage every October 21.
