Definition

Panama's second city, at the Caribbean entrance of the Canal, founded in 1850 with the transisthmian railroad. Center of Afro-Antillean culture and cradle of Panamanian plena and much of the country's music and sport. It coexists with high unemployment and urban decay despite hosting the Colón Free Zone.
