27 de febrero de 1852

Also spelled: Día de Colón · fundación de Colón

Definition

The date of the official founding of the city of Colón, born on Manzanillo Island as the Atlantic terminus of the Panama Railroad. It is Colón Day, the city's birthday, and should not be confused with November 5, when Colón commemorates the consolidation of the separation. The railroad's Americans called it Aspinwall for years, but its official name was always Colón.
